Production of molybdenum

Are you interested in the production of molybdenum products from the supplier AvecGlob? Here you will find interesting information on this topic /

General information

Molybdenum is a white platinum-like metal with a melting point of 2,610 ° C. In its pure form it is tough and viscous, characterized by moderate hardness, high thermal conductivity, high corrosion resistance and low expansion coefficient.

Stages of production of molybdenum steel

Initially, a technical oxide of molybdenum (MoO 3) is obtained, from which already technically pure molybdenum is produced in furnaces. The starting molybdenum concentrate is fed from above with a stream of heated air and gases blown from the bottom. Each hearth has four air-cooled air-cooling units; The arms are equipped with spreading blades that swirl the material outside or in the center of the melting zone, from where the material enters the next stage. In the first focus, the concentrate is preheated, causing the flotation reagents to ignite, initiating the conversion of MoS 2 to MoO 3. This exothermic reaction, which continues and intensifies in the following stages, is controlled by oxygen regulation and water jets, which, if necessary, cool the furnace. The process ends when the sulfur content in the semi-finished product drops below 0.1%. The final purification of MoO 3 follows.

Supplier — AvekGlob Company — offers at reasonable prices from the manufacturer molybdenum rolling in a wide range of brands and profiles, in full compliance with the requirements of domestic and foreign standards. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.

Final operations

The production of molybdenum from pure MoO 3 is carried out in pipes with electric heating or in muffle furnaces in which hydrogen gas is supplied as countercurrent. In general, two steps are carried out in which MoO 3 is first reduced to a dioxide and then to a metal powder. Two stages can be made in two different furnaces with cooling between them, or one two-zone furnace can be used. Sometimes even a three-stage process starts, starting at a low temperature of 400 ° C, which prevents the sintering of the semi-finished product.

In a two-stage process, two furnaces with a long muffle with heating elements made of molybdenum wire can be used. The temperature of the furnace is 600−700 ° C. The product from the first furnace is fed to a second furnace operating at 1000−1100 ° C, after which the metal powder passes the pressing step.

Due to the extremely high melting point, molybdenum can not be melted into high quality ingots by conventional methods. However, it can be easily melted by an electric arc. In the course of such a process, extrusion of metal into rolled products occurs. Molten molybdenum can also be cast into water-cooled molds. The density of the final product after deformation is not less than 10,200 kg / m 3 .
