Tantalum alloys

Supplier — AvekGlob company — offers tantalum alloys at a reasonable price from the manufacturer in a wide range of brands — domestic and foreign. The supplier guarantees the timely delivery of products to any address specified by the consumer.

Technical specifications

Tantalum is silver metal, with a characteristic luster, which is distinguished by high corrosion resistance. Tantalum, characterized by its excellent strength at high temperatures, is also one of the most corrosion-resistant metals, resistant to most acids, comparable to the resistance to glass and platinum.

Tantalum alloys with tungsten were used in practice. An alloy containing 97% tantalum and 2.5% tungsten is used in cases where low temperature is important, as well as high corrosion resistance and good formability. An alloy with 90% tantalum and 10% tungsten is used in high-temperature applications where high strength in a corrosive environment is required simultaneously. This alloy has approximately twice the tensile strength than pure tantalum, but retains the same resistance to corrosion and plasticity.

Urgency of application

Tantalum alloys are ductile, easily deformed, have high resistance to acid corrosion, excellent heat and electrical conductivity, have a high melting point. They are used in the production of electronic components, mainly capacitors. The main and ultimate goals of using tantalum alloys — mobile phones include portable phones, laptops, personal computers and automotive electronics. Tantalum is part of the hard alloys used in the tool industry for metalworking, as well as for the manufacture of jet engine parts.

Chemical composition

In addition to tungsten, tantalum is also doped with niobium (more rarely molybdenum), which form solid substitutional solutions with the parent metal. The chemical composition of the most known alloys of tantalum is given in the table (numerical data — in percent):

Brand alloy Ta W Nb
R05252 97.5 2.5 -
R05255 90 10 -
R05240 60 - 40

As impurities in the composition of tantalum alloys there are bound gases: nitrogen (up to 0.015%) and oxygen (up to 0.0045%), as well as carbon (up to 0.001%).
